Winners of the 2005 Florence International Chamber Music Competition, the Navarra String
Quartet are fast emerging as one of the outstanding quartets of their generation. Formed
in September 2002 under the guidance of the Director of Chamber Music at the Royal
Northern College of Music, Dr Christopher Rowland, the quartet consists of three Dutch
members and one British member.

In September 2003, the Navarra Quartet represented the RNCM at the International Music
Festival at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. They have subsequently given recitals in
the UK, The Netherlands, and the USA, including highly acclaimed performances as part
of the 2003 RNCM Mendelssohn Festival, the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia
Cove, the 2004 QuartetFest (RNCM), the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the 2005
Brahms- Schumann Festival, the Lake District Summer Music Festival (2005) and SovietFest
in Manchester (2006). More recently they participated in the Lincoln International Haydn
Festival, playing alongside quartets such as the Quatour Mosaiques and the London Haydn
Quartet. In February/ March 2006 the Navarra Quartet were resident at the Britten Pears
School in Aldeburgh and have been invited to return in 2007.
This concert is supported by The Tillett Trust as part of its programme of supporting
talented young musicians in the early stages of their professional careers.
