The Chamber Players

Brahms: String Quintet in G, Op.111

Vaughan Williams: Phantasy Quintet in D minor

Mozart: String Quintet in G minor, K.516

The Chamber Players were formed in 2006 and since then have performed at the Buxton and Chichester Festivals and many leading music clubs and societies around the UK. The players are drawn from leading orchestras throughout the UK and have also performed with other distinguished chamber ensembles including The Guildhall String Ensemble, The London Bridge Ensemble and The Rothko String Trio.

Mozart's String Quintet in G minor that ends this concert is one of the greatest works in all chamber music. The Chamber Players are generously offering a CD recording of this work to each couple who purchase tickets for this concert and for attending members of Hoylake Chamber Concert Society.

The Phantasy Quintet by Vaughan Williams was written at around the same time as the famous Tallis Fantasia and The Lark Ascending, and has something of the wistful character of those works.

Brahms' second String Quintet which begins the concert was written when he was in full maturity and at the height of his composing powers.
